Stephanie and I had quite a bit of sibling rivalry growing up. I was born April of '83 and she was born in December '85. When we were kids and people would ask us how far apart in age we are, I would always say 3 years and she would always say two. Now when people ask she always says 3 and I always say two. I can't be old enough for my little sister to be home from a mission!
Here are some pictures from our trip...This is the Scottsdale railroad park. Asher was in little boy Heaven! I was impressed that they gave you such a long train ride and there was a bridge and a tunnel which made Asher VERY excited. The first time we went, Asher and Paul road in the box car at the back of the train. It was Asher sized, but Paul was a little cramped so the next time we went, Paul convinced Asher to sit in the front by the engine. Asher has always been really sensitive to loud noises and the trains whistle being so close was too much for him. He would be laughing and smiling and then the train would whistle and Asher would cover his ears and whimper in fear. All in all he loved it, Asher still wants to go back. Madeleine loved it too. She thought the whistle was awesome.
Maddie kept saying "Baby Jesus" over and over again for the rest of the evening after she saw the nativity scene.
Paul took this beautiful picture. I may have to frame it.
Tuesday night (Dec. 2nd), a few hours before we had to wake up to catch our plane, Madeleine started vomiting. She threw up several more times during the night. Then again in the parking lot at the airport. While we were in the airport waiting for our plane she started having explosive diarrhea and we had to change her clothes twice. She threw up all over the airplane we were on, luckily the plane was empty so she only puked on the empty seat next to her. She then threw up about every 30 minutes on our 3 hour drive home from the Portland airport. I have never been so happy to be home in my life.
The next day Paul was too sick to get out of bed, the day after that Asher and I were too sick to get out of bed. The best part...
Asher and Maddie are STILL throwing up and have diarrhea. Maddie doesn't wake us up when she vomits so every morning I go in and have a huge mess to clean up. I took her to the Dr. on Tuesday afternoon and he said it was the stomach flu and it can last up to 10 days. It isn't as bad as the first few days, but one of them is always vomiting. Asher is back in diapers again after being almost completely potty trained.
It has now officially been ten days and they're still just as sick. I don't want to sound like a downer, but it's been really hard to feel very Christmasy when I've barely left the house since I've been back. I was able to go to enrichment last nigh and I LOVED it, it was such a beautiful program and so festive, and no one was vomiting. I absolutely love my ward and the ladies in it. And I want to go back to church this week, so if you could all say a special Christmas prayer for Asher and Maddie to feel better, I would appreciate it.

Yeah! You're back! I was just wondering if you had fallen off the face of the earth! I'm so sorry to hear about all the sickness at your house! Let me know if you need anything.
That picture that Paul took of the temple is AMAZING. Really. Through Costco, you can turn pictures into a canvas. I can see this one as one of those. It really looks amazing.
I'm glad you got to see your sister! Wow, I can see the family resemblance!
Glad you're back! I will pray for your family to get well!
OH MY GOSH! No wonder I haven't seen you in forever! I don't know how you are handling it. Seriously, I think I would just go crazy, or give up completely and the family would just have to live in all the puky mess. I can't believe you've been doing this for 10 days!
At least you had some happy vacation news. Sounds like a great trip, I love the picture of Paul all hunched over in the train car :-) He must really love his son!
It was so good to see you last night, Vanessa. I can't believe what you've been going through over at your house with sickys for so, so long. I will say a prayer for you that everyone can be well soon at your house. Your sister looks just like you. Do you see the resemblance? Whenever people tell me I look just like my family members, I have a hard time seeing it. :-) You should definitely get that picture framed, it is beautiful.
Oh, no! That sounds awful. We had a version of that flu that only lasted a couple of days and it was awful. I cannot imagine 10 days! Well, I can, but I don't want to. At all. And, wow. Throwing up on the plane. Great bouncing icebergs. That must have been awful. I'm so sorry that happened.
But, it's wonderful that you had such a nice trip down in Phoenix.
Ok. I was about to call. You were making me a bit nervous. Never do that again! Glad to hear you're doing...well...! I went through so many emotions during your post. Talk about a rollercoaster ride! First, happy to hear you got to go to Az. How fun! We might be there for Christmas..you planning on going back in a month?!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then, I was excited for the train. Indeed Ash would be in heaven. Sad to hear of the sickness. And then the vomiting wouldn't stop...ahhh! Then I imagine cleaning all that up..then I became grossed out.
I felt a bit of peace when you went to Enrichment! Good luck to you and your sweet babies. Get well. Lydia and I will both say a prayer!
So...it was Az that made y'all sick. The first time I went there, my little brother got really sick. he blamed it on the water, then I started not to feel so well. But it wasn't bad. Second time I went there, Lydia got ridiculously sick. Sickest she's been. I have to admit, I'm kinda scared to go back again- especially after your experience! ahh!
Hang in there! By the way, Beth had her baby. Now she has a Luke and an Adam!
I know, I won't shut up. But I forgot to mention a part of my emotional roller coaster...the temple pic. sigh. gorgeous. Definite felt peace. Yes, def.needs to be on a wall. Good job Paul!
OH...whoops! I forgot to comment on your sister coming home. She's home already?! I swear she just left. I still remember when she came to visit you to say goodbye! wow. time flies. I'm done. promise.
Had to say a prayer for your kiddies as soon as I read your post. Made me feel better (physically). We have a weird way of reacting to stories of sickness. I think it's psychological. I heard a lady on the radio the other day say she had pink eye. The next day I went to the doctor and had.....pink eye. My sisters kids had the flu, and I told Ashley about it....the next day...she had the flu. We'll see what happens. I'm not telling anyone else in my family about your kids being sick! :)
That picture is absolutely beautiful! You really ought to get some rights on it and sell it to Deseret Book or something. Or just frame it and send it to me! I could definately use something beautiful like that on my wall.
Steph looks great! She said she was feeling lucky she went to Denmark instead of Mongolia. Brian has had a pretty tough time with his health since he got there. Anywho, we love you guys, and wish we lived closer!
10 days!! Oh my. I hope everyone feels better pronto.
VANESSA!! I'm so glad you had a good time, so sad about the awful trip home, and really sad your kids are still sick!! That's not cool at all. Glad you were able to get out of the house for enrichment. Hopefully I'll see you tomorrow at Janna's ornament party?
The Mesa temple looks so beautiful. Kevin and I had the chance to go there a two years ago right around this time. It was beautiful!
