The purpose of my blog, in my eyes, is to serve as a journal for my growing family. I don't really write personal stuff very often, but I've seen "memes" on other people's blogs, and I think it's a fun way to get to know each other, so here it goes:
1. I hate to drive, I would much rather be a passenger or walk.
2.I have phobias of bees and dentist offices. I break into a sweat when I bring my kids in for their cleanings and it has only been this year that I have been able to get my teeth cleaned without some sort of anxiety medication (go me). In fact, when the dental hygienist was done with me a few weeks ago, the dentist was running late and they asked me to wait in the waiting room until the dentist got there. I lost my nerve and bolted. Paul was waiting for his appointment with the hygienist and I took the kids home. Later, Paul asked me if I knew that the dentist was supposed to see me after the hygienist and I fessed up. He laughed at me- a lot.
4. I like to be friends with quirky/weird people. I am ill at ease with people who seem too polished and together. My favorite is finding out that the polished people are weird too. The less normal you are, the more I like you. My friends, ask yourself what this says about you :)
5. I am not crafty or creative. Home decorating gives me panic attacks. My sister in law decorated my bathroom for us as a gift when we first got married and 4 homes later, my bathroom still looks the same because she did such an awesome job, and I won't mess with it.
6. I genuinely like other people's kids
7. I never know what to say when people ask me where I am from. I was born in Wenatchee, WA, but lived in Quincy until I was 7. Then I lived in Ithaca, New York for 3 years and then lived in Phoenix, AZ from the ages of 10-18. Then in my college years I lived in Thatcher, Arizona, Nauvoo, Illinois, and Provo, Utah. Then I moved to Kennewick, Washington and I now live in Pasco, Washington. So there you have it.
8. I would be pregnant all of the time just for the clothes. Elastic waistband? Clothes meant to celebrate my pudgy belly? Yes, please.
9. I love having babies enough that sometimes I worry I'll be the old woman who lived in a shoe.
10. The only foods I truly dislike are cauliflower, avacados, and mangos. I love food. I really love food. Especially chocolate food.
11. I majored in psychology in college and worked as a co-director for a Crisis Line. Trust me when I say I've heard it all. I have lost my ability to be shocked.
12. I was once invited to give a lecture on suicide prevention to a hostage negotiation unit.
13. I got engaged after two weeks of dating Paul. I never even really prayed about it or wrestled with the decision much. I knew I was supposed to be with him like I know I need air to breath.
14. It REALLY bothers me to be late, which has been a challenge as a mother because no matter how well I seem to plan, life just happens sometimes.
15. I am not organized and I am an expert procrastinator. I wish I could change these aspects of my personality. Maybe someday...
So there you have it, more than you ever wanted to know about me.

I love reading about people that I *think* I know...even a little...just to find out I don't really *know* them at all. Why I love to read blogs, maybe? I would never guess that you like to be friends with quirky/weird people...YOU seem like the put together/polished person to me. :-) Isn't it funny our impressions of people...how OFF they seem of our OWN impressions of ourselves? I'm a quirky/weird person, Vanessa...just in case you were wondering. :) I need Xanax when it comes to decorating my home. I also need large doses of it to go near a dentist's office. I've only gotten work done of late by using a sedation dentist. Seriously, the BEST way to get any dental work done...even just a cleaning. The ONLY thing I liked about being pregnant (besides the obvious baby in the end) was the pregnant clothes. You get to be considered cute AND fat at the same time. It just doesn't get better than that.
Love it! Being pregnant and forced to wear the cloths, I consider you crazy for wanting to wear them, but I guess they can be comfy when you don't try to wear pants that are too small for you, like I do. I loved hearing more about you.
Wow I learned a lot about you that I had no idea. It was very fun. Thanks for sharing.
I'm glad you like weird people because that's me!!! I have wondered sometimes if you think I'm too weird. So it's nice to know that weird is okay.
Lydia looks like an angel!!
How interesting! I enjoyed your list.
1. You know I support this 100%.
2. Right there with you on the bees. Your dentist story is AWESOME.
3. I love that there is no number three.
4. I embrace it.
8. LOL
9. I will still be your friend and I will happily come visit you in your shoe. while the kids are in school.
12. Did you do it? The lecture that is, not the suicide...
13. I love that you said this, because that is how I felt too. No overwhelming confirmation, I just knew it.
14. ugh. the story of my life.
15. LOL... maybe someday...
How did I miss number 3? I'll have to fire my editor.
I love hearing the "stuff" about people, too. I'm pretty sure I didn't know ONE SINGLE THING on here. Maybe I shouldn't have just admitted that.
You ran out of the dentist's office! That's hilarious! What is it with Ashbys and dentists? I practically had to send Zach to the dentist at gunpoint. Or would have if we had a gun, which is probably why we don't.
Also, I totally understand about not knowing where to say you are from. Even if I say, "oh, I've lived all over" they'll ask where was my favorite place or where I graduated high school. People really want to pin you down to a location, I've found.
this was such a fun post! i only ever get to talk to you in the nursing mother's room, which says to me, that i must agree with you about babies! and i do:) i would have a dozen, esp. if i didn't have to be sick.
i do LOVE food as well. i spend a lot of time just thinking about what to eat or cook, looking at recipes etc.
